National Arts in Education Week September 10 – 16, 2017

Whether you are a student, educator, parent, organization or principal, you can find a way to celebrate the arts in education during National Arts in Education Week!

The arts are an essential part of a complete education, no matter if it happens in the home, school or the community. Students of all ages – from kindergarten to college to creative aging programs – benefit from artistic learning, innovative thinking, and creativity. Celebrating National Arts in Education Week is a way to recognize this impact and share the message with friends, family, and communities.

National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education. Passed by Congress in 2010 through House Resolution 275, the celebration is designated to bring attention to this cause for elected officials and educational decision makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students.

Can My PTA Help the Harvey Flood Victims?

PTAs are prohibited from making personal gifts to a specified family or individual.

PTAs may participate in community relief efforts by making a monetary donation to a relief organization recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and United Way handle donations for relief efforts under benevolent fund procedures, which means that funds are received for disbursement to a broad class of potential recipients.

Join thousands of PTA parent-volunteer advocates and leaders along with educators and community leaders in San Jose on April 28-30, 2017, to address education, health and community issues affecting our state’s kids and families.

Convention Volunteers Needed

California State PTA is looking for a handful of dedicated volunteers willing to work three full-time days at the 2017 California State PTA Annual Convention in San Jose. We will provide parking and a non-voting convention registration.

Volunteers will be working primarily in the PTA Store, and will have an opportunity attend at least one workshop. Additionally, because the PTA Store is closed on Sunday, volunteers may attend any Sunday workshops and the final general meeting, too.

The New California School Dashboard

The new California School Dashboard was released to the public on March 15th. You will be able to see a report card on how your school and school district did last year on multiple measures. How did your school do? How are students doing?

Resources to learn more:
  • An easy-to-use online tool for navigating the state’s groundbreaking new accountability and continuous improvement system.
  • Because comparisons can be useful and helpful, EdSource has created a searchable and sortable chart that enables a user to see all of the schools by city, county and school district, with their color ratings on all available indicators. They can be sorted by level of performance, from red to blue – lowest to highest – or blue to red, to identify best performing schools.
